Donor Wall Inspires Stalled Capital Campaign
We talk a lot about “donor forethought”, urging fundraisers to budget for a donor wall in tandem with goal planning. A design that creates a portrait of your organization’s core identity will attract positive attention and help you raise funds. This one step enables a nonprofit to use the design for the donor wall as a visual aid in raising funds.
You are in a campaign and it is stalled. What to do? It turns out that this method can be used to re-energize a stalled campaign.
Capital Caring, began its capital campaign to build a state of the art hospice in suburban Virginia and it appeared to have met its goals. Because this happened in the middle of the Recession construction costs came in higher than expected. So, feeling they had exhausted their donor base, the campaign stalled and they needed to do something drastic.
Capital Caring commissioned us to design a donor wall and the publicity it generated jumpstarted this stalled campaign – bringing new life, excitement and donations.

The mural depicts a birds eye view landscape featuring the Shenandoah River and Mountains. This region is home for most of the campaign’s donors, who were motivated to bring hospice services closer to home.
Major donors are recognized in the skyline with sandblasted tiles and additional levels are recognized in the “watercolor wall” side panels.
There are lots of surprises hidden in plain sight in mural, special touches for visitors of all ages.
This mural is not only donor recognition, but it also provides a vibrant, colorful welcome in the foyer entrance.
