St Mary’s University of Minnesota
Unique donor recognition. These massive three-dimensional 3′ X 5′ ceramic books containing donor names were inspired by medieval manuscripts and Gregorian chant books – a link to the roots of Catholic education. The books are set onto a custom indigenous stone “altar” structure. Based on Gregorian chant books, this work, including its stone base, ceramic “altar cloth” and wooden lectern was designed by Karen Singer as a site specific work of art.
The images on the “altar cloth” were chosen because of their meaning to St. Mary’s and its mission as a Catholic institution.
Donor names are still being added to the white page areas by sandblasting.
